APOKA SAFARI LODGE, KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Peaceful safari lodge

Picture golden plains, rocky outcrops, countless stars and boundless horizons. Add a flourishing population of wildlife and you have the setting of the serene Apoka Safari Lodge.

Only reachable by light aircraft, Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated park and pretty much as far as you can get from the bustle of the city. Those who travel to this forgotten wilderness can be sure of a truly private safari experience where days are spent tracking lions, crocodiles, waterbuck, bat-eared foxes, wild dogs and countless birds on game drives and bush walks. Apoka prides itself on being the only lodge within the park, meaning you’re likely to have sightings all to yourself.

The camp is made up of 10 amply sized rooms, simply furnished with natural materials, hand-woven woollen carpets and hand-crafted wooden beds elegantly draped with mosquito nets. When you’re not on game drives you can watch for wildlife from the privacy of your own shaded veranda or outdoor stone bathtub. Between activities, cool off in the rock-carved swimming pool, enjoy a sundowner in the shade of a fig tree or visit the local village to learn more about their traditional way of life.

The itinerary was spot on. Claire really listened and understood the kind of holiday I wanted – from the hotels to the pace of the trip. The team on the ground were exceptional: friendly, efficient, and always one step ahead, helping with everything from flight check-ins to tax-free procedures at the end. “TRIP TO THE TOP OF THE WORLD”
Everything about our trip was excellent. While it’s a considered investment, the service more than justifies the cost. We loved the accommodation – beautifully chosen and thoughtfully located. Our guides ranged from grear to truly exceptional. And the places we visited? They exceeded all expectations. Peru is an extraordinarily beautiful country, and this journey gave us a real sense of its wonder.
